Isle of Man Ship Registry Launches Exclusive Insurance Programme for Flagged Yachts
Partnership with Aon and Intact Insurance delivers bespoke coverage and competitive pricing for yacht owners
The Isle of Man Ship Registry, one of the world’s leading registers of ships and superyachts, has collaborated to provide a new exclusive insurance programme designed specifically for vessels registered under the Isle of Man flag. The initiative, developed in partnership with global insurance broker Aon and leading specialty insurer Intact Insurance, provides yacht owners with access to comprehensive, tailored insurance solutions at competitive rates.
The programme represents a significant enhancement to the value proposition for Isle of Man-flagged yachts, offering coverage that addresses the unique needs of yacht owners while leveraging the registry’s reputation for quality and partnership.
Comprehensive Coverage with Enhanced Benefits
Under the new arrangement, Intact Insurance can provide 100 percent coverage for vessels valued up to $250 million (€250 million), delivering comprehensive “all risks” hull and machinery protection. The programme features personalised policy wording based on the industry-standard America Yacht Form R12, with increased sub-limits and lower deductibles.
Key features of the insurance offering include:
- Bespoke Coverage: Tailored policy terms that extend beyond standard market offerings, including coverage for tenders, toys, small craft, and day workers.
- Complimentary Risk Management Survey: A comprehensive vessel survey provided within 90 days of policy inception by Inserve, at the underwriter’s expense, with recommendations tailored to enhance safety and compliance.
- Fleet Discounts for Single Vessels: Unprecedented access to fleet discount pricing even for owners with just one vessel, whether renewal, new business, or new build, a 5% discount will apply for each yacht registered in the Isle of Man. For owners with multiple yachts the discount will apply to each yacht registered in the Isle of Man.
- Individual Underwriting: Each vessel is assessed on its own merits, ensuring owners are not penalised for broader fleet losses while still benefiting from competitive fleet pricing.
- A Low Claims Continuity Bonus: Provides a 10% return of the net premium, as long as the claims cost does not exceed 10% of the net premium during the period of insurance. This is also available to lower value yachts and as such is an industry first.
Addressing Market Gaps
The programme specifically targets vessels that may be underserved by the broader marine insurance market, particularly smaller-valued yachts that have traditionally faced challenges accessing competitive terms and comprehensive coverage.
Flexible and Comprehensive Protection
The insurance solution provides extensive protection including physical damage coverage, increased value provisions, guest medical payments, personal effects coverage (including ship’s cash and fine art), uninsured boater coverage, and war risks protection.
Vessels can be used for multiple purposes including business entertainment, private pleasure, charter, boat shows, and demonstrations. The programme also features tailored deductibles matched to claim types, with lower deductibles for smaller items and no deductible for innocent third-party damage when vessels are stationary and not at fault.
Accessing the Programme
Any yacht registered with the Isle of Man Ship Registry of 24 metres Loadline Length and over is eligible to apply for coverage. Management companies, corporate service providers, and anyone acting on behalf of a vessel can access the offering by presenting an Isle of Man-flagged vessel to Aon for a quote. Final coverage remains subject to underwriting review and approval.
