PYCR - Overview

The Pleasure Yacht Charter Ready (PYCR) Scheme is designed for yachts which spend the majority of their time operating under a Pleasure Certificate of Registry, but that may wish to undertake occasional, short term charters. In order to do so, it will be necessary for the vessel to switch to a commercial certificate of registry for the duration of the charter use. To enable the vessel to change registration via an expedited procedure, it is necessary for the vessel to maintain full commercial compliance at all times, including when operating on a pleasure certificate of registry.

As a PYCR yacht must spend the majority of its time operating under a Pleasure Certificate of Registry, the applicable fees will be the Pleasure Yacht Annual and Registry Fees. However, since the survey and certification must be maintained as if it was a commercial yacht, a PYCR will be subject to the commercial yacht CYFS survey fees scheme.

Below are the key features of this survey scheme:

  • Yacht must be 24m or over and built to the Large Yacht Code/REG Yacht Code Part A
  • Requires full compliance with all commercial regulations at all times
  • Permits up to 12 paying passengers when operating under a commercial CoR
  • Yacht must be predominantly pleasure but may switch to commercial CoR for short
    periods

Please see Section 2 of MSN 075 for the full details of this survey scheme.
