YETs - Overview

The Yacht Engaged in Trade (YET) scheme is a new survey scheme which is launching in 2025 and is based upon well-established precedent for such schemes. The YET Scheme enables private yachts to undertake limited charter activities within designated EU waters (currently France, Monaco and Greece) for up to 84 days per annum. In order to undertake such charter activities, it is necessary to meet the conditions specified in section 3 of MSN 075.

As a YET is expected spend the majority of its time operating under a Pleasure Certificate of Registry, the applicable fees will be the Pleasure Yacht Annual and Registry Fees. However, since the survey and certification must be maintained as if it was a commercial yacht, a YET will be subject to the commercial yacht CYFS survey fees scheme.

Below are the key features of this survey scheme:

  • Yacht must be 24m or over and built to the Large Yacht Code/REG Yacht Code Part A
  • Requires full compliance with all commercial regulations at all times
  • Permits up to 12 paying passengers when operating under YET Temporary Certificate
    of Registry
  • Some restrictions on charter activity e.g. country of departure and residency of
    charterer

Please see Section 3 of MSN 075 for the full details of this survey scheme.
